When Maryann Plunkett takes the stage in the otherwise abysmal NOTEBOOK, I am seized by pity and terror. When Kelly O'Hara swings her feet skyward in WINE AND ROSES I am shocked at the frank carnality of the moment.
Taub is doing a good job in a part smartly customized to her strengths and weaknesses. It's not the same achievement.
The same could be said of Lin-Manuel Miranda in HAMILTON, but the character had much more variety than the rather one-note Alice Paul, and also had many more moments which grabbed the audience by the heartstrings. |
