Michael R. Jackson, I assume you mean. (As opposed to the lead character in MJ.) But why would that have mattered? it's not like anyone in the audience would know Jackson well enough.
I do seem to remember that Spivey had some difficulty with stamina in the role. But I doubt his take on the character affected his Tony chances.
